AKC Scent Work Trial October 2021

Lakes Region Kennel Club recently invited me to check out their AKC Scent Work Trial in Meredith, NH. This was exciting for me because I’ve never been to a scent work trial before. It is something me and Tuesday have dabbled in but I’ve never seen how trials are run or what skills are required. It was lots of fun and very informative! I was also excited to see how many different breeds excel at this sport. Thank you Lakes Region Kennel Club for having me!

Here are some of my favorite shots from the trial. These are from the exterior and buried search classes.

This trial was held at the Meredith Community Center. Beautiful location for a trial and lots of great spots for exterior hides!

Is it me or does this stone siding make it look like they’re searching a castle?

I love watching how methodical and thoughtful these dogs are when searching. They really know their jobs!

My favorite indicating behavior of the day! The scent was hidden on the bottom of the chair - right below his chin :)

Human! I found it! It’s right here!

In this class the scent was buried under sand and the dog’s had to indicate the correct container. Also, this was one of the cutest dogs I’ve ever seen.

I think it was unofficially Corgi Day at this trial :)

Oh look! Another Corgi :) They were all adorable - and awesome workers!

And as if finding scent submerged in containers of water weren’t challenging enough - upper levels get to work around added distractions such as this very popular tennis ball on a rope.

Thank you to everyone for letting me tag along on your runs! And answering lots of questions :)
