Farm Trial September 2021

Herding dogs are definitely my favorite to photograph. And farm trials are my favorite competitive herding event to photograph. Unlike most herding trials that are held in standardized arenas with set courses through panels, shoots and maybe a pen, farm trials are totally unique to the farm on which they held. Teams have to accomplish a series of “real life” farm tasks as they move through the course. These tasks may include unloading trailers, gate sorting, loading livestock into shoots, gathers, pen work, etc. Enjoy some of my favorite photos from the trial!

And now for my personal brag. I wasn’t just there to take pictures - Tuesday and I competed as well! Our duck runs were… not good. BUT she got to work goats (her favorite) and we pulled off a second place finish and qualified! I didn’t have many expectations and just went in with a few small goals. We just kept plugging along from task to task and we finished - with a whole 29 seconds to spare!
